Verb Stems

The first step in conjugating any Korean verb is identifying its stem:

1. Take the dictionary form of the verb (ends in 다)

2. Remove the 다 ending

3. What remains is the verb stem

Examples:

• 가다 (to go) → 가 (stem)

• 먹다 (to eat) → 먹 (stem)

• 공부하다 (to study) → 공부하 (stem)
