Regular Verbs

Regular verbs follow consistent patterns when conjugated.

Irregular Verbs

Korean has several classes of irregular verbs:

ㅂ Irregular

Verbs ending with ㅂ transform to 우 before vowel endings.

  • 춥다 (to be cold) → 추워요 (not 춥어요)

ㄷ Irregular

Verbs ending with ㄷ transform to ㄹ before vowel endings.

  • 듣다 (to listen) → 들어요 (not 듣어요)

ㅅ Irregular

Verbs ending with ㅅ drop the ㅅ before vowel endings.

  • 낫다 (to get better) → 나아요 (not 낫아요)

ㅎ Irregular

Verbs ending with ㅎ drop the ㅎ and contract with vowel endings.

  • 좋다 (to be good) → 좋아요 → 조아요

르 Irregular

Verbs ending with 르 undergo special transformations.

  • 부르다 (to call) → 불러요 (not 부르어요)
