These particles mark the subject of the sentence.

• Use 이 after words ending in a consonant

• Use 가 after words ending in a vowel

Examples:

• 학생이 공부해요 (The student studies)

• 선생님이 왔어요 (The teacher came)

• 저가 한국어를 배워요 (I learn Korean)

• 친구가 밥을 먹어요 (The friend eats rice)
